Reporting hazards, incident and near misses
At BPS, safety of our students and staff is highly important. If you injure yourself at school (or whilst off site at a school based program), you MUST report this to the Principal and complete a yellow form for Leonie. These forms are then entered onto the DET EduSafe platform. If work safe is required, the school will follow the DET policy and procedures linked to this.
At each staff administration meeting, OHS is an agenda item. If you have an issues, you are welcome to raise it at this time, however, if the issue s of extreme importance, please notify the Principal ASAP.
If at any time you are physically harmed by a student (or parent/staff member) this must be immediately reported to the Principal.

Location of Amenities
* Toilets - Staff are required to use the disabled toilet at the end of the toilet hall way. This is a co-gender toilet. Please ensure you leave the toilet in a clean and tidy manner. * First Aid - The sick bay in located beside the staff table. All forms are also located in this area. First Aid supplies are in the hallway outside the toilets. The key to the locked first aid cupboard is located in the storage box inside the unlock cupboard. * Photocopiers - these are located in the staff table/ library area. They do not require passwords. * Cleaning products - are located in all classrooms or in the staff room. Cleaning products should be kept in the teachers store room with door locked and closed. The area under the sink is not a lockable cupboard, therefore, cleaning products should not be stored in this area. * Mops and other cleaning tools - are located in the cleaners cupboards. You will need the Principal's or business manager's keys to access this cupboard. The other cupboard in this hallway is where you will locate tissues and paper towel for classroom use. * Yard Duty bags and vests - are located in the fire reel cupboard outside the Principal office. Please remember to return at the end of each duty. If yard duty bags need to be restocked with First Aid, please notify First Aid Coordinator (Donna Belden). |
First Aid Procedures
First Aid Coordinator - Donna Belden If you have a child who requires first aid assistance in your class, either * have an ES staff member assist * send them to the principal or business manager * but if emergency, call office and request immediate assistance and have all other students move to a near by classroom If a child requires first aid in the yard MINOR - * Band aids can be issued to minor injuries FIRST AID CARD - Students can be sent in by yard duty teacher to receive first aid treatment from a staff member at the staff table. EMERGENCY CARE - Send a student into the staff table with the yard card, requesting immediate assistance in the yard for a first aid injury Depending on the severity, all other students may be asked to re-enter the school building, allowing for the student to be taken care of without distraction or distress. Paper Work * If student receives minor treatment, a white slip MUST be filled out by the attending first aid officer. * If it is major and student is sent home, or for follow up treatment, the teacher who was on duty must complete the yellow DET required form, in conjunction with the treating first aid officer. This form must immediately be given to the business manager. |
Beaufort Primary School does not have any asbestos, therefore, does not require an asbestos management plan or coordinator.
Beaufort Secondary School does have asbestos, and these plan is available upon request from the BPS Principal.

OHS Training for all staff
All staff employed by the Department of Education and Beaufort Primary School are required to complete health and safety training. Employees are assigned OHS training modules through OHS eLearning and must be completed in the first 3 months of commencing their employment.
